Lusaka Baptist Church (LBC) celebrated the official opening of the new sanctuary on Sunday, 4th July, 2010. Hundreds of people from various baptist churches within and outside Zambia gathered to witness the occasion. This day also marked the beginning of LBC's golden jubilee celebrations. Two former pastors, Joe Simfukwe and John Symons, preached powerfully from the book of Romans on the theme: "We are not ashamed of the gospel".
Pastor Joe Simfukwe specificallly looked at "The Person of the Gospel," while Pastor Symons dealt with: "The Message of the Gospel". Notable in the congregation was Barbara Harris, wife to the first pastor of LBC, Derek Harris.
Ronald Kalifungwa, the current pastor, unveiled a plaque which read "GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST, This Sanctuary was opened on 4th July 2010 by Pastor Ronald Kalifungwa during the Golden Jubilee: 'Celebrating 50 years of the triumph of the gospel'. We are not ashamed of the gospel, Romans 1:16." The celebrations went on up to Tuesday, 6th July 2010. Other reports on this glorious occasion.
Lusaka Baptist Church was formally constituted on 2nd July, 1960. |

About Lusaka Baptist Church |
|
Lusaka Baptist Church is committed to the whole Bible as the inspired and inerrant word of God; the preaching of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, as the only means for salvation; and the historic and apostolic Christian faith as expressed in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith. The church was formed on July 2, 1960, with forty-two people as foundation members; forty of these transferring from Ndola Baptist Church—the mother church—and two from Central Baptist Church, Salisbury. These forty-two made the following declaration: |

Services Resume in New Sanctuary |
|
The first Saturday prayer meeting, ever, in the new church building was held on June 26, 2010 in the reception room at the back of the sanctuary, with about 25 people attending, and church elder Steven Tembo leading. The first hymn sung, during the prayer session, was: "How good is the God we adore / Our faithful, unchangeable friend / His love is as great as his power / And knows neither measure nor end / 'Tis Jesus the first and the last / Whose Spirit shall guide us safe home / We'll praise him for all that is past / And trust him for all that's to come." Amen to that!
The next day saw the first Sunday services in the new building, which was filled to capacity, partly due to the top floor not yet being usable. Also the pre-opening publicity and June's evangelism drive brought in a lot of visitors.
Two years of waiting was ended, and Lusaka Baptist Church finally had congregated in the new house raised up for her by our Father God. May he fill the place with his glory, and his sheep, and may we be willing servants in God's quest to call his own out of the darkness and into his marvellous light!
Hallelujah! For the Lord is good, and his mercy endures forever!

Lusaka Baptist Church's sanctuary is undergoing its second major expansion, the first major extension having been carried out about 30 years ago, when the wing sections were added. Construction should be completed by the end of September, 2010. The church, however, has now moved back permanently to the new building.
The new sanctuary will seat over 1,000 people on two levels, and add a full library and bookshop to serve both the church and the immediate community. We encourage former members who would like to support this work to get in touch with us for more information. |
